Linda Zimmerman is the Director of The Amit Program. She began working at Jewish Educational Services (JES) in September 1995 where she established the Special Needs Department. In this role, Linda provided consultation services to synagogues, preschools and day schools in insure that all children with learning differences have access to a quality Jewish education. She also arranged teacher workshops and community symposium on learning differences. This department grew into The Amit Program.
Linda is the past president of the board, and a current board member of the Interfaith Disabilities Network of the Bobby Dodd Institute. She is a member of the Inclusion Committee of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and she also participates in the Coordinated Network for Persons with Disabilities in the Atlanta Jewish community as the educational representative. Linda is also a member of the Youth Task Force, sponsored by the Dekalb Developmental Disabilities Council.
Prior to JES, Linda worked as a consultant in the Independent Living Program of Jewish Family and Career Services and acted as an interim director of the program. She provided vocational expert witness testimony for the Social Security Administration and she worked for eight years as a Rehabilitation Counselor providing case management services to injured workers.
Linda is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Masters degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. She has completed additional coursework in learning differences. She was the assistant administrator of a synagogue supplemental religious school and has taught Hebrew and Judaics in supplementary schools.
Linda is a past recipient of the Marilyn Shubin Professional Staff Development Award for outstanding contributions as a professional within the Atlanta Jewish community.
